Why is nail trimming important?

Rabbits require regular nail trims every four to six weeks to prevent overgrowth. If left unmanaged, overgrown nails can curl into the foot pads or snag on surfaces, leading to painful open wounds and skin infections. Because a rabbit's nails grow constantly, consistent maintenance is essential to ensure proper posture and prevent mobility issues. Little Dolittle provides professional trimming to keep your rabbit comfortable and protect their delicate feet from injury.

We can trim nails for the following breeds:

  • Mini lop

  • Holland lop

  • Lionhead

  • Dutch

  • English spot

  • Netherland dwarf

  • Polish

  • Rex or mini rex

  • Californian

  • Harlequin

  • Small or medium cross breeds

Unfortunately, we are unable to trim nails for the following breeds:

  • Flemish giant

  • French lop

  • Continental giant

  • Giant chinchilla

  • English lop

  • New Zealand

  • Large cross breeds

The safety and emotional well-being of your rabbit are our primary concerns. Because rabbits are prey animals, they can experience extreme stress during handling which, in rare cases, can lead to serious health complications.

If we feel your rabbit is becoming dangerously stressed or if continuing the trim poses a risk to their physical health, we will stop the session immediately.

If we are unable to complete the nail trim due to the rabbit’s stress levels or temperament, there will be no charge for the appointment. We believe that no grooming session is worth risking a rabbit’s life, and we appreciate your understanding in putting their safety first.

Reviews

"James of Little Dolittle has trimmed our rabbit's nails many times, and I can highly recommend his nail trimming service to all bunny parents out there. James handles Bugsy gently but with confidence, and Bugsy remains calm and appears to settle in and actually enjoy his pampering time, considering that he is a bun who doesn't particularly enjoy being handled too much by us. Thank you Little Dolittle for all your professional services you provide for our loving pets, and we will continue to rely on you for all Bugsy's nail trims and health checks.
Highly recommend"👍
