Extra Care, No Extra Cost: Why We Don’t Charge for Meds

At Little Dolittle, we’ve always felt that looking after a pet means looking after the whole pet. Sometimes that means extra kale and chin rubs, and other times it means carefully timed doses of medicine or looking after a post-op wound.
A question we get fairly often is whether we charge more for pets who need a bit of medical help. The answer is a flat no. We don’t think pet owners should pay extra because their pet has a health condition or has reached their golden years. Whether it’s syringing meds, applying creams, or managing a feeding tube, it’s all part of the service.
We’ve had a few notable guests lately who reminded us exactly why we do what we do:

Kevin the Sulcata Tortoise: Kevin is actually a girl! Tortoises are notoriously difficult to gender until they’re older. Kevin came to us after a major operation to remove ovarian cysts. When she first arrived, she was wrapped in a bandage with a feeding tube still in place. It was a delicate situation, but after a bit of patience and specialised care, we were so pleased to get her eating on her own again. She’s a real fighter!

Clara the Guinea Pig: This little lady has been such a trooper. She recently had to have a toe amputated, which meant she needed a very clean environment and a watchful eye to make sure she was healing properly. Seeing her back on her feet and moving around comfortably again has been a total joy.

Snoop the Guinea Pig: A familiar face to many of our regulars! Snoop has needed some consistent management over the last year or so, and he takes it all in his stride. He’s a perfect example of how a bit of routine care keeps a senior piggy's quality of life high.

Ginge the Cat: We’ve been heading out to a neighbouring village to visit Ginge, a lovely elderly boy who is currently on quite the cocktail of meds, including Thyronorm, Catease, and Meloxaid. He also had a tricky skin irritation on his neck recently that required some extra attention. He is such a sweet, patient lad, and we love seeing him on our regular rounds.
Why we do it this way:
We know how much worry comes with having a pet that isn't 100%. The last thing you want when you're away is to wonder if their meds were given correctly or if they’re being treated as "extra work."
When your pets stay with us, or when we visit them at home, we treat their medical routine as a priority, not an add-on. We’re happy to handle the "fiddly" bits so you can have peace of mind knowing they’re in safe, experienced hands.
