New service to Announce - Tortoise Well-being Check

Why a well-being check important?

Since tortoises have long lifespan, a lot of their health issues develop very slowly. A quick check-up helps catch things before they become a real problem. This will includes eyes, ears, nostrils, beak, mouth, neck, scales, cloaca, gait/movement, carapace shell (back shell), plastron shell (bottom shell), front and back legs, feet and nails and weight.

Beak and Nail Maintenance: We’ll check if their beak is getting a bit too long (which makes them struggle to eat) or if their nails is overgrown (which could lead to discomfort).

Weight & Growth Tracking: It’s hard to tell if a tortoise is losing weight just by looking at them. We’ll get an accurate weight and check that their shell is growing nice and smooth, rather than "pyramiding" or shell injury.

Clear Eyes and Ears: We look for the early signs of respiratory issues or ear abscesses that can be common but easily missed.

What are the risks of leaving it to chance?

Because tortoises don't show pain like a dog or a cat would, skipping regular checks can lead to some hidden issues:

Nutritional Gaps: Things like Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD) can start off invisible but eventually lead to soft shells and weak legs if their calcium or lighting isn't spot on.

Hidden Infections: A tiny bit of bubbles at the nose or a slight wheeze might not seem like much, but in a tortoise, it can turn into a serious chest infection.

Digestive Woes: If they aren't hydrated enough or have a build-up of parasites, it can reduce their energy and slow down their growth.
